Position Overview

As a Community Engagement Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in delivering drug and alcohol recovery programs aimed at enhancing the lives of individuals, families, and communities. Your focus will be on fostering a person-centered approach that promotes sustainable, positive change to support overall wellbeing and empower individuals to reach their full potential.

Role Purpose

This position is designed to enhance service user and caregiver involvement while driving community development initiatives. The successful candidate will be tasked with cultivating a variety of community projects, ensuring a positive experience for service users, overseeing volunteer training and support, promoting inclusivity, and maintaining up-to-date community information. Additionally, you will contribute to increasing the Social Value impact of our services.

Your role will involve employing innovative strategies to combat stigma, enhance community participation in visible recovery efforts, and utilize an asset-based approach while contributing to diverse information channels, including social media and performance analytics.

Given the dynamic nature of our services and the populations we serve, this role is expected to adapt to evolving needs, requiring flexibility and responsiveness to various responsibilities aligned with your expertise.

Main Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to facilitate the development of educational, training, and employment opportunities.
  • Provide timely information, reports, and statistics in accordance with service requirements.
  • Work collaboratively across the service and with partner organizations.
  • Engage with stakeholders and external partners as directed.
  • Promote active involvement of service users and caregivers in the planning and delivery of services.
  • Participate actively in team meetings.
  • Contribute as a team member to create an environment conducive to delivering equitable services to substance users, their families, and the broader community.
  • Champion diversity and equality of opportunity in all aspects of your work.
  • Support the enhancement of recovery offerings, advocate for inclusion, and work to reduce stigma.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • NVQ/Level 3 in a community-related field or equivalent demonstrable experience in community engagement.
  • Minimum of 12 months experience working with diverse community groups and providing support to vulnerable or marginalized populations.

Desirable

  • Experience in mentoring or supervising volunteers.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, along with proficiency in IT and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Basic understanding of the effects of drug and alcohol use on individuals and communities.

Work Circumstances

Essential

  • Possession of a valid driving license and access to a vehicle.
