Position Overview: Are you ready to lead and inspire in a vibrant academic environment? Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking a Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Knowledge Exchange and Innovation) to join our esteemed Senior Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities: In this pivotal role, you will be tasked with shaping and promoting our strategies in research, knowledge exchange, and innovation, ensuring our sustained excellence in academia.

  • Formulating and executing Birkbeck's comprehensive research strategy.
  • Enhancing research performance and supervising high-caliber submissions for the REF.
  • Upholding the utmost standards of research governance and integrity.
  • Overseeing the commercialization and impact generation of research initiatives.
  • Assisting faculty Heads in cultivating research activities with substantial economic influence.
  • Leading the rollout of the Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF).
  • Chairing the College's Innovation and Commercialisation Board.
  • Managing all personnel within the research, innovation, and knowledge exchange divisions.

Qualifications: To excel as our Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Knowledge Exchange and Innovation), you should possess:

  • Proven expertise in strategic planning, budget oversight, and project management.
  • A comprehensive understanding of compliance and regulatory standards in a university context.
  • Experience managing a Research Selectivity or Research Audit Exercise.
  • A successful track record of establishing international research networks and collaborations.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in motivating staff and achieving high performance benchmarks.

Compensation: The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Knowledge Exchange and Innovation) will receive a competitive salary on Grade 10 of the College's London pay scale. This position offers a full-time schedule of 35 hours per week, complemented by a hybrid working model. Additional benefits include a consolidated weighting/allowance for staff based in Greater London.
