Responsibilities

As the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Knowledge Exchange and Innovation), your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Crafting and executing Birkbeck's long-term research agenda.
  2. Enhancing research performance and supervising high-caliber submissions for the REF.
  3. Leading and guiding Birkbeck researchers, staff, and students.
  4. Upholding the highest standards of research governance and integrity.
  5. Overseeing the commercialization and impact of research outcomes.
  6. Assisting faculty Heads in advancing research initiatives with substantial economic benefits.
  7. Spearheading the implementation of the Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF).
  8. Chairing the College's Innovation and Commercialization Board.
  9. Managing all personnel within the research, innovation, and knowledge exchange sectors.

Ideal Candidate

To excel as our Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Knowledge Exchange and Innovation), you should possess:

  1. Proven expertise in strategic planning, budget oversight, and project management.
  2. A successful history of securing funding and identifying future funding opportunities.
  3. Comprehensive knowledge of compliance and regulatory standards in a university context.
  4. Extensive senior management experience in higher education.
  5. Experience in managing a Research Selectivity or Research Audit Exercise.
  6. A successful track record of establishing international research collaborations and partnerships.
  7. Demonstrated leadership experience in motivating staff and achieving high performance benchmarks.
  8. A Professorial title or a CV that meets the Professorial level standards of Birkbeck and the University of London.

Compensation Package

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Knowledge Exchange and Innovation) will receive a competitive salary on Grade 10 of the College's London pay scale. This role offers a full-time schedule of 35 hours per week, with a flexible working model. The initial appointment is for a 5-year term, which may be renewable, and includes an ongoing professorial role at Birkbeck following the completion of the initial term. Additional benefits include a consolidated weighting/allowance for staff based in Greater London.
