Responsibilities
As the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Knowledge Exchange and Innovation), your key responsibilities will include:
- Crafting and executing Birkbeck's long-term research agenda.
- Enhancing research output and supervising high-caliber submissions for the REF.
- Leading and guiding Birkbeck's researchers, staff, and students.
- Upholding the highest standards of research governance and ethical practices.
- Overseeing the commercialization and impact of research initiatives.
- Assisting faculty leaders in advancing research endeavors with significant economic benefits.
- Spearheading the implementation of the Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF).
- Chairing the College's Innovation and Commercialization Board.
- Managing all personnel involved in research, innovation, and knowledge exchange activities.
Ideal Candidate
To excel as our Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Knowledge Exchange and Innovation), you should possess:
- Proven expertise in strategic planning, budget oversight, and project management.
- A successful history of securing funding and identifying future funding opportunities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of compliance and regulatory standards in a higher education context.
- Extensive senior management experience within the academic sector.
- Experience in managing a Research Selectivity or Research Audit Exercise.
- A successful track record of establishing international research collaborations and partnerships.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities in motivating staff and achieving high performance benchmarks.
- A Professorial title or a curriculum vitae that meets the Professorial level criteria of Birkbeck and the University of London.
Compensation Package
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Knowledge Exchange and Innovation) will receive a competitive salary on Grade 10 of the College's London pay scale. This position offers a full-time schedule of 35 hours per week, with a flexible working model. The initial appointment is for a 5-year term, which may be extended, and includes an ongoing professorial role at Birkbeck following the completion of the initial term. Additional benefits comprise a consolidated weighting/allowance for staff based in Greater London.
