Position Overview

The primary responsibilities of the Canine Care Support Specialist include ensuring the well-being of military working dogs in accordance with established service protocols. This encompasses daily feeding, grooming, and sanitation of the dogs and their living environments. The role may also involve additional tasks relevant to the position.

This role is structured for a commitment of 37 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily health assessments of all military working dogs to ensure they are healthy and free from injuries.
  • Provide regular exercise, playtime, and grooming for the dogs under your care.
  • Administer medications or first aid as directed by a licensed veterinary professional.
  • Implement ongoing disease prevention strategies, including routine treatments for worms, fleas, and ticks, while maintaining accurate records for each dog.
  • Care for any sick or injured dogs, adhering to hygiene and isolation protocols to prevent the spread of disease.
  • Perform daily cleaning of all kennels and surrounding areas, including isolation facilities.
  • Ensure fresh water is available for all dogs on a daily basis.
  • Thoroughly clean all feeding bowls, the feed preparation area, and the medical supply area each day.
  • Prepare dog food in accordance with specific dietary needs.
  • Regularly inspect the kennel area for any damage or equipment that is not functioning properly, reporting issues to the supervising officer.
  • Submit maintenance requests as needed for kennel infrastructure.
  • Assist in transporting military working dogs within and outside designated areas, including trips to veterinary clinics.
  • Notify the supervising officer when supplies such as food, medication, or equipment need to be ordered.
  • Maintain an up-to-date information board regarding feeding and medication schedules, including kennel identification.
  • Be knowledgeable about policies regarding the exercise and free running of military working dogs to prevent unauthorized breeding.

This position requires a dynamic individual with a flexible mindset and strong problem-solving abilities.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should possess strong communication skills, a collaborative team spirit, and excellent organizational abilities. Attention to detail in routine tasks and adherence to animal welfare standards are essential.

Prior experience in handling or working with military working dogs is highly desirable.

Licenses Required

A valid UK driving license is necessary.

Language Proficiency

Fluency in English is required.
