About the Role

The Research Development (RD) team at the University of Bristol is seeking a dedicated Research Funding Specialist to join us on a 9-month maternity cover contract. We are a dynamic and collaborative team working across disciplines to support the University's world-class research endeavors.

Our Impact

The RD team plays a vital role in securing external funding for groundbreaking research projects. We work closely with academic staff, providing expert guidance and support throughout the grant application process. Our efforts contribute to the University's position as a top 5 UK University for research (REF2021).

Your Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for academics seeking information and assistance with grant applications.
  • Identify and disseminate funding opportunities to the academic community, ensuring they are aware of relevant research grants.
  • Provide in-depth expertise on preparing and submitting compelling grant proposals, offering constructive feedback on non-technical aspects and conducting mock interviews to enhance application quality.
  • Contribute to grant writing training programs delivered by the team, sharing your knowledge and experience with colleagues.
  • Coordinate and deliver both in-person and online events, such as funder visits, to foster connections and promote research funding opportunities.
  • Liaise effectively with research funders to maintain strong relationships and stay informed about funding priorities.

Your Profile

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a genuine passion for research and a deep understanding of the higher education landscape. You possess exceptional organizational and project management skills, enabling you to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines consistently.

  • Demonstrate strong IT proficiency, particularly in database management and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Exhibit excellent numerical skills to analyze financial data related to research funding success rates, rankings, and budget allocations.
