Position Overview
This is a remarkable opportunity for a General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist to become a vital part of the Coastal West Sussex Care Delivery Service. The primary responsibility is to engage with the Worthing crisis and home treatment team, delivering advanced medical care to individuals evaluated at the Haven in Meadowfield, Worthing.
This position offers a Recruitment and Retention payment of £25,000, alongside a (up to) £8000 relocation allowance. The Recruitment and Retention payment is distributed in the following manner:
- £5000 upon appointment
- £5000 at the 12-month employment anniversary
- £6500 at the 30-month employment anniversary
- £8500 at the 48-month employment anniversary

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will conduct assessments and develop treatment plans for patients under the care of the crisis and home treatment team, as well as those attending the Haven for comprehensive evaluation.
Collaboration with bed management processes is essential to ensure patient flow, and working closely with the multidisciplinary team in the Haven unit is crucial for delivering high-quality patient care.
Within the Worthing Crisis Team, you will liaise with medical personnel from the acute wards. You will also provide specialized psychiatric assessments, treatment, and aftercare services to patients in crisis, aged 18 and above, who have been referred to the team.
The role includes providing clinical leadership and direct line management to junior medical staff. There are opportunities to develop positions and take on educational and clinical supervision of GP or core mental health trainees and higher trainees, as agreed by the locality tutor.

Essential and Desirable Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice at the time of appointment.
- Approved clinician status OR the ability to achieve it within 3 months of appointment.
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
- Excellent clinical skills with a bio-psycho-social perspective and extensive medical knowledge.
Desirable Qualifications
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management.
- MRCPsych.
- Good standing with GMC concerning warnings and conditions on practice.
- A broad range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to the position within the NHS or a comparable service.
