About Us

At West Sussex County Council, we are dedicated to enhancing the lives of children and families within our community. Our commitment lies in improving our services as we embark on a transformative journey aimed at delivering exceptional family support and advancing our 'Children First' initiative.

The Early Help Service plays a vital role within the Children, Young People and Learning Directorate. We collaborate with children, families, and young individuals to ensure that every child is empowered to reach their full potential. Our approach is to work in tandem with social care, ensuring that all families receive the appropriate assistance and protection from the relevant sectors of children's services.

Early Help guarantees that families receive timely and coordinated support tailored to their needs. This assistance spans a spectrum from universal preventative strategies to more focused interventions for families facing complex challenges. Our goal is to address and mitigate issues before they escalate.

The Opportunity

Salary: £27,334 to £29,777 per annum
Working Pattern: Full Time
Contract Length: Permanent

The Early Help Service at West Sussex is devoted to delivering a consistent and family-centered service for children, young people, and their families. Through our Supporting Families methodology, we strive to meet children's needs at the earliest opportunity, assisting families in resolving challenges before they become more difficult to manage.

We recognize that educational professionals are ideally positioned to identify early signs of concern for children and families. Therefore, our Dedicated Schools Team Family Support Specialists work closely with school staff to provide timely and targeted early interventions, adapting to new challenges that may arise.

As a Family Support Specialist within the Dedicated Schools Team, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of the school's demographics, needs, and challenges, fostering a positive and trusting relationship between early help services and educational institutions.

Your role will involve assessing the needs of children, young people, and families to coordinate and deliver the necessary support aimed at enhancing their outcomes and experiences, while preventing issues from becoming irreversible.

You will implement direct interventions addressing various issues faced by children, young people, and their families, ensuring their safety and promoting positive changes.

Strong partnership skills are essential, as you will be required to build and maintain effective relationships with parents, families, and partners, including educational institutions, health services, law enforcement, and children's social care, to achieve favorable outcomes for children.

Independent travel across the county is necessary, including to locations that may not be easily accessible by public transport. Proficiency in English communication with the public is also required.
