Job Overview

We are pleased to present an exceptional opportunity for a General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist to become a vital part of the Coastal West Sussex Care Delivery Service. This position involves providing advanced medical care to individuals assessed within the crisis and home treatment team.

This role includes a Recruitment and Retention payment of £25,000, along with a (up to) £8000 relocation allowance. The RRP payment is distributed in the following manner:

  • £5000 upon appointment
  • £5000 at the 12-month employment milestone
  • £6500 at the 30-month employment milestone
  • £8500 at the 48-month employment milestone

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be responsible for conducting assessments and formulating treatment plans for patients under the care of the crisis and home treatment team. You will collaborate closely with bed management processes to enhance patient flow and work alongside the multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality patient care.

In this role, you will engage with medical staff from acute wards and provide specialized psychiatric assessments, treatment, and aftercare services to individuals in crisis, aged 18 and above, referred to the team.

You will also offer clinical leadership and supervision to junior medical staff reporting to you. Opportunities exist to develop roles and provide educational and clinical supervision to GP or core mental health trainees and higher trainees, as agreed by the locality tutor.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Full registration with the GMC and a license to practice at the time of appointment.
  • Approved clinician status or the ability to achieve this within three months of appointment.
  • Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or the ability to achieve this within six months.
  • Excellent clinical skills with a bio-psycho-social perspective and extensive medical knowledge.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management.
  • MRCPsych.
  • Good standing with the GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice.
  • A broad range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to the position within the NHS or a comparable service.
