Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged to become a part of the EHS team at Teledyne UK Limited as a Senior Environment, Health and Safety Consultant. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in guiding the organization through a significant phase of expansion, where establishing your credibility and fostering robust working relationships as a trusted advisor will be essential.

As a member of a centralized EHS team, you will be expected to comprehend all facets of the organization and serve as a subject matter expert in Environment, Health, and Safety.

The ideal candidate will exhibit enthusiasm, a proactive mindset, and a strong desire to learn, with support provided to cultivate the skills necessary for a proficient health, safety, and environmental professional.

You will report directly to the Head of Environment, Health and Safety while collaborating closely with the EHS Business Partner, EHS Compliance Coordinator, and EHS Champions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head of Environment, Health and Safety in ensuring the EHS management system is effective and aligned with business needs.
  • Engage with production, engineering, facilities, and project teams to understand and support their operational health and safety requirements.
  • Oversee and support ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 Accreditations and the internal audit program.
  • Promote workforce engagement and initiatives to develop a strong EHS culture.
  • Manage and support divisional Risk Action Groups chaired by operational managers.
  • Participate in legal and management system audits, ensuring proper documentation within the compliance framework.
  • Act as a deputy for the Head of Environment, Health and Safety, preparing for and presenting at the Health, Safety, and Environmental Steering Committee.
  • Contribute to the development of EHS policies and procedures, providing professional guidance on risk management.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of EHS software for managing incidents, risk assessments, audits, and inspections.
  • Support managers in addressing actions from risk assessments and audits, ensuring timely closure.
  • Ensure department managers comprehend and implement EHS management system requirements.
  • Coordinate regular health, safety, and environmental evaluations and audits, aiding management in addressing non-conformances.
  • Collaborate with the Occupational Health Department to implement effective health surveillance.
  • Facilitate effective communication of EHS matters to all employees through newsletters and briefings.
  • Assist managers in identifying workforce training needs in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Support the development and testing of emergency preparedness and response plans.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating a positive attitude towards EHS and cultural improvement initiatives.

Essential Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in a large, complex, high-risk manufacturing environment.
  • Business-oriented and pragmatic approach to Environment, Health, and Safety.
  • Able to lead and influence at all levels, willing to challenge existing processes.
  • Experience in conducting and reviewing Risk & CoSHH assessments.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 & 14001 Management Systems.
  • Familiarity with EHS processes and the ability to drive improvements.
  • Understanding of legal requirements and the ability to interpret legal texts.
  • Strong background in industry best practices and applicable ACOPs.
  • Confidence in ensuring compliance with regulatory servicing and inspections.
  • Experience working with a diverse workforce.
  • Proactive with strong prioritization skills.
  • Proven experience with EHS compliance software.
  • Equitable work ethic.
  • Good understanding of routine IT packages.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Relevant degree: NCRQ Diploma, NVQ 6 Diploma, NEBOSH Diploma.
  • Membership of IOSH, at minimum Grad-IOSH (evidence of CPD).
  • Certified Auditor (ISO 45001 & ISO 14001).
  • Excellent presentation and report writing abilities.
  • Highly motivated and proactive individual with a pragmatic approach to EHS.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, OneNote).
  • Understanding of Behavioral Based Safety and implementation of BBS Programs.
