Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Brachytherapy service, streamlining the patient journey from referral to follow-up, anticipating problems, and implementing solutions.
  • Develop and maintain clinical expertise in Brachytherapy treatment, providing expert advice and disseminating knowledge to the radiotherapy team, Oncology Centre Trust, and nationally.
  • Lead a team of radiotherapists within the Brachytherapy unit, ensuring all treatments are performed according to trust and department policy within a quality environment.
  • Ensure working practices are consistent with the centre's strategic plan and meet professional and locally agreed standards, providing a multi-disciplinary approach to service development and provision.
About the Role:

As a Clinical Brachytherapy Specialist, you will have the opportunity to work with a range of Brachytherapy services, including insertion of Fiducials and Spaceoar, Gynaecological HDR, Prostate LDR & HDR. You will be responsible for developing specialized patient/disease management packages for your area and/or across the care pathway within professional boundaries.

You will also be responsible for managing bookings and scheduling appointments for Brachytherapy patients, liaising with theatres and recovery wards. Additionally, you will ensure that all staff working in the team operate within the correct policies and procedures regarding patient care.

You will liaise with radiotherapy physics, engineers, and representatives of companies providing equipment to the department on day-to-day issues such as servicing and breakdowns to minimize disruptions and maximize efficiencies.

You will develop working practices to facilitate an efficient and safe working environment, provide clinical cover on the Brachytherapy unit in a leadership and training capacity, and participate in out-of-hours telephone on-call.

You will manage and investigate Brachytherapy incidents and risks, offering advice to staff and ensuring that outcomes are identified, acted upon, and learning is shared.

You will communicate issues of service delivery to the head of radiotherapy services and participate in problem-solving exercises.

You will attend defined Brachytherapy meetings and feedback to the Head of Radiotherapy Services.

You will act as the radiation supervisor for Brachytherapy.
