Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Lead Palliative Care Nurse to become a vital part of our Charity-funded Inpatient Hospice. Our facility features a 15-bed inpatient unit, a Day Centre, and a community team committed to delivering exceptional standards of palliative care within a multidisciplinary framework. We cater to individuals facing cancer, HIV, and other life-limiting conditions, along with their families.
Key Responsibilities
Patients are welcomed into our Specialist Palliative Care In-Patient Unit for comprehensive assessment, symptom management, end-of-life care, rehabilitation, respite services, and medical interventions, drawing from a broad catchment area.
This position is ideally suited for an experienced Palliative Care Nurse with a background in either hospice or hospital settings. The successful candidate will have a history of mentoring staff and training junior team members.

Job Duties
- Provide clinical leadership to a designated nursing team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality nursing care.
- Maintain continuous high standards of skilled nursing care and professional practice through evidence-based methodologies.
- Encourage a progressive approach to the ongoing enhancement of patient care through research and evidence-based practices.
- Serve as a role model and expert clinical practitioner, supervising and educating both trained staff and student nurses.
- Assist in the effective management of the department within allocated resources, demonstrating flexibility to ensure all service aspects are managed safely and efficiently.
Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications
- Experience at Band 5 or above in specialist palliative care or oncology.
- Demonstrable practice that is evidence-based and current.
- Experience in team collaboration, motivating and empowering colleagues to achieve excellent patient care standards.
- Ability to identify and address risks encountered in practice.
- Experience in supporting junior or less experienced staff to enhance patient care standards.
Desirable Qualifications
- Ability to guide less experienced staff in responding positively to feedback and setting objectives as necessary.
- Utilize professional knowledge and experience to influence decision-making processes for improved patient and staff outcomes.
- Employ assertive communication skills to foster collaborative solutions to challenging situations.
- Conduct audits in an objective and efficient manner.
