Role Summary
Reporting to the Head of Marketing, this pivotal role grants you considerable independence. You will spearhead the development and execution of the events strategy while establishing your credibility as a senior representative of the Crown Commercial Service (CCS) to cultivate stakeholder connections that align with the broader marketing communications strategy.
Customer Experience Vision
The Customer Experience Directorate (CXD) aims to instill a customer-centric approach throughout CCS, influencing all operational aspects and every customer interaction. Our mission is to amplify the customer’s voice within CCS, guiding them toward the most suitable commercial solutions. We strive to inform our colleagues about what matters to customers, such as social value and local initiatives, all while focusing on delivering value to UK taxpayers.
For instance, our collaboration with the NHS last year enabled us to provide innovative solutions for virtual wards, allowing over 100,000 patients to recuperate at home with hospital-level care, thus expediting their recovery and freeing up essential hospital resources.
Team Overview
This is an exceptional opportunity to join a vibrant marketing and communications team comprising 25 professionals. As the deputy head of marketing for events and stakeholder engagement, you will direct the events strategy and cultivate senior stakeholder relationships that underpin our marketing goals in a complex governmental context. You will also manage a team of three members.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Direct our strategic initiatives for events, ensuring they align with the marketing and communications strategy and the overall business objectives.
- Forge strategic partnerships with senior external stakeholders, including trade associations and event coordinators, to enhance CCS's reputation and influence.
- Negotiate and oversee commercial agreements that deliver value and support CCS's strategic priorities.
- Provide strategic counsel and leadership to internal stakeholders, managing reputational risks effectively.
- Ensure alignment of the events strategy and stakeholder engagement with governmental policies and priorities.
Operational Management
- Supervise the execution of the external events strategy, ensuring it meets established objectives and is delivered to the highest standards.
- Manage the events budget (approximately £300,000 within the overall marketing and communications budget), applying stringent financial controls to ensure optimal value.
- Offer leadership and event expertise to the Head of Communications to facilitate the successful execution of internal employee engagement events.
- Oversee supplier contract management, ensuring compliance and timely delivery of services.
- Establish measurable success criteria, evaluation methods, and reporting metrics to demonstrate the impact of the events strategy to stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with CCS brand standards, accessibility guidelines, and sustainability practices.
Professional Standards
- Uphold the principles, policies, and practices of the Government Communications Service to a high professional standard.

Essential Qualifications:
- A proven history of crafting and executing impactful event strategies while managing competing priorities to fulfill business objectives.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and nurturing external stakeholder relationships through various engagement techniques, including negotiation and influence.
- Strong strategic planning and analytical skills, with the ability to make independent decisions and translate strategy into operational success, supported by thorough evaluation and performance metrics.

- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to perform effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation and Benefits
In addition to a competitive salary of £56,031, Crown Commercial Service contributes £15,184 towards your membership in the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
