Job Description

Role: Land Manager

Location: Edinburgh

Wind Estate is pleased to be supporting the appointment of a Land Manager to join their Edinburgh-based team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly collaborative organization at an exciting time.

Wind Estate is a prominent player in the renewable energy sector and one of Denmark's leading developers with a 25-year company history. We have a robust mix of a strong future-proof development pipeline and a significant well-run fleet, generating renewable energy in Denmark and the UK.

The office in Edinburgh was established in 2015 with a focus on the development of Onshore wind projects across Scotland. We have a proven track record and a portfolio of 1GW under development, continuing to play a pivotal role in advancing the UK's renewable energy targets.

As a forward-thinking organization, Wind Estate places a strong emphasis on collaboration, communication, and flexibility. The company's leadership fosters a culture of innovation, encouraging employees to think creatively and find solutions to complex challenges. With a proven track record of over 12 years in the UK's energy and infrastructure development, Wind Estate continues to play a pivotal role in advancing the country's renewable energy goals while maintaining a global mindset towards the broader challenges of sustainable development.

Job Summary

As Land Manager, you will be responsible for securing ancillary land rights across Scotland (and potentially the rest of the UK). For the right person, this is an exciting opportunity with the potential to grow within the renewables industry in general and project development in particular. You will have a variety of tasks in the office as well as being out in the field negotiating contracts and building relationships, whilst representing the company.

With reference to the UK Head of Development, you will be trained on the company's operating procedures and in the use of relevant software and assessing and reporting methods. It will be an advantage to have experience as a land rights negotiator for Wind and Solar Projects, but candidates with experience securing land rights for other large-scale infrastructure projects will also be considered for the position.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify, design, and negotiate land rights for component delivery routes (e.g. wind turbines) and grid connection routes, including overrun/oversail agreements.
  • Implement option-to-lease agreements, servitude agreements, wayleave agreements, and any other property-related agreements.
  • Carry out record of condition surveys.
  • Provide financial and contractual input to Financial Investment Decisions and other commercial decisions, ensuring best value is achieved.
  • Land referencing and reporting of information using the Land Registry.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders (e.g. planning authorities, statutory consultees, landowners, solicitors, land agents, grid network operators) where required.
  • Report and manage several projects at one time, in the development phase as well as under construction (for clarification and the resolution of misunderstandings, disputes, etc.).

Skills and Experience:

  • You are well-versed in reading and understanding legal documents and can demonstrate a minimum of a couple of years' experience in contract negotiation, preferably from negotiating land rights for renewable energy projects or infrastructure projects.
  • You have an analytical and structured approach to tasks and excel in problem-solving under pressure.
  • You are good at putting yourself in the place of others, are solution-oriented, and understand the dynamics happening between different parties and interests.
  • You are good in IT with experience in Microsoft Office.
  • You take pride in your work, are highly motivated, and able to work independently and within a team.

We Offer:

An exciting position in a small, agile team in Edinburgh with the opportunity to really make your mark in the transition towards renewable energy. You will be part of an organization with an entrepreneurial mindset and a can-do attitude. We are curious and progress are at the forefront. We dare to think big and new, and the willingness to 'dare to fail' is a natural part of the process. You will be empowered to fulfill your tasks with no micro-management, and your personal and professional development is important to us.
