Position Overview

The Air Commercial Division operates as a key component of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) Commercial Function, integrated within the Government Commercial Function (GCF). As a pivotal player in Defence outputs, the Air Commercial Team manages a diverse portfolio of contracts, ensuring effective delivery of services ranging from advanced technological capabilities to essential support services for the RAF.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the management of a substantial number of contracts, ensuring compliance and value for money.
  • Lead and mentor Commercial Officers within the team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into new procurement needs, formulating strategies and engaging with the market effectively.
  • Participate in the entire procurement process, from drafting documentation to evaluating bids and awarding contracts.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and addressing any issues that arise.
  • Attend contract review meetings and provide comprehensive reports and statistics for senior management.
  • Maintain accurate contract documentation and performance metrics, ensuring all records are up-to-date.
  • Develop and sustain effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay informed on departmental policies and apply them in practice.
  • Implement a personal development plan to enhance skills and competencies relevant to the role.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or willing to pursue CIPS Level 4 accreditation within a specified timeframe.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven experience in managing stakeholder relationships.
  • Willingness to travel to various MOD locations as required.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in public sector procurement.
  • Background in commercial operations is advantageous, although comprehensive training will be provided.
  • Experience in project or financial management is beneficial.
  • Ability to solve problems and manage multiple priorities effectively.
