Job Overview

This is a replacement Consultant post at King's College Hospital, a leading teaching Trust in the UK. The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team providing and continuing to develop care for patients with Glaucoma.

Main Duties
  1. Provide specialist Consultant leadership, expertise, and support to King's glaucoma services.
  2. Develop and provide outpatient and surgical services for glaucoma patients from complex to routine cases.
  3. Share responsibility for providing 24/7 cover for the Unit on a rota basis.
  4. Provide clinical supervision of junior medical/dental practitioners.
  5. Contribute to the Care Group's research interests.
  6. Contribute to audit programs and clinical governance.
  7. Take an active role in the formulation and monitoring of the Care Group's Business Plan.
  8. Exercise professional leadership for all staff.
  9. Work with clinical colleagues to ensure staff productivity and job satisfaction.
  10. Undertake Care Group management duties.
  11. Comply with Trust infection prevention and control policies.
  12. Conduct protective interventions consistent with evidence-based practice.
  13. Contribute to Consultant-led 7-day services.
Person Specification
  • FRCOphth / MRCOphth or equivalent qualification.
  • Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD or PhD).
Registration
  • Full Registration with GMC.
  • Name on GMC Ophthalmology Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment.
Training and Experience
  • Wide experience in all aspects of Ophthalmology.
  • Advanced subspecialty training in Glaucoma.
  • Competence in performing high-volume and complex cataract surgery.
Administration
  • Experience in day-to-day organization of Ophthalmology services.
  • Familiarity with information technology.
  • Familiarity with current structure of UK National Health Service.
Management and Leadership
  • Able to demonstrate leadership capability.
  • Management course and/or qualification.
Audit and Quality Improvement
  • Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit.
  • Audit publications.
Research and Publications
  • Experience of clinical research.
  • Publication of relevant review articles.
Teaching
  • Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching.
  • Teaching skills course/qualification.
