We are seeking a highly skilled Consultant Ophthalmologist to join our team at King's College Hospital. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in medical retina and uveitis, and will be responsible for providing specialist care to patients with these conditions.
The post will be based at our Queen Mary's Hospital site in Sidcup, although the successful candidate may be required to work at other King's sites as needed. The individual will be expected to play an active role in the general workload of the department, including providing clinical supervision to junior staff and contributing to teaching and training initiatives.
The main duties of the job will include providing specialist Consultant leadership and expertise to the medical retina services provided at King's College Hospital. This will involve developing and providing comprehensive medical retina services, including dealing with diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and vein occlusions, as well as uveitis. The post holder will also be responsible for overseeing the fast track service for AMD and the anti-VEGF service, and will be expected to contribute to the development of community-based medical retina services for patients with stable retinal disease.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ophthalmology, with advanced subspecialty training in medical retina and uveitis. They will also have experience in performing high-volume and complex cataract surgery, and will be able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to departmental research interests, audit and clinical governance programmes, and the formulation and implementation of the department's business plan.
