Locum Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology

We are seeking a highly skilled Consultant Diabetologist to cover maternity leave for 12 months, providing clinical leadership and expertise in developing our local community diabetes services.
The successful candidate will be based within Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and will spend 50% of their time working in the community across the boroughs of Greenwich and Bexley. They will be responsible for delivering community diabetes clinics, virtual clinics, and primary care MDTs, working closely with primary care to improve the quality of care across the Bexley and Greenwich system.
The role will also involve supporting any additional specialist interest post holders within the acute component of the role, with opportunities to develop clinical skills and contribute to the department's clinical governance programme.
The 10 PA contract will comprise 7.5 direct clinical programmed activities and 2.5 supporting programmed activities, including 1.5 PA for revalidation and 1 SPA for teaching and training activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical leadership for a borough-based multidisciplinary team
- Deliver Consultant-led community diabetes clinics and provide clinical support to DSNs, podiatrists, dietitians, and psychologists
- Work with Practices to risk stratify patients with diabetes and deliver MDTs to agree a management plan
- Offer advice and guidance by telephone or email
- Develop the community service to meet the needs of the local community and system partners
On Call Commitment:
The successful candidate may have opportunities to undertake inpatient diabetes/endocrine reviews, preoperative assessments, endocrinology clinics, or engage in the on-call rota, depending on their interests.
CPD/SPA:
CPD is counted within SPA time, and attendance at internal meetings counts as SPA and is also often CPD. The clinician will have to make a choice of what to attend within the department and discuss with the CD where attendance is vital as part of smooth working of the department.
Professional leave:
Must be agreed with the CD/DD and is discretionary according to the activity. No clinics should be cancelled for professional leave.

The Diabetes and Endocrinology Department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Woolwich) and Queen Mary's Hospital (Sidcup) is a busy department with a team of experienced Consultants and healthcare professionals. The department delivers diabetes and endocrinology services across two sites, with a focus on providing high-quality care to patients with diabetes and endocrine disorders.
