Job Overview

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dynamic and innovative Senior Nurse leader to take on the role of Matron for our Cardiology Services, specifically overseeing the Coronary Care Unit and Acute Cardiology Ward. This department is equipped with 8 level 2 care beds in the coronary care unit and a 26-bed acute cardiology ward, which includes both level 2 and telemetry care beds. Our aim is to provide exceptional, modern facilities for the management of heart and lung diseases, allowing our multidisciplinary teams to collaborate effectively in delivering high-quality patient care across the region.

The successful candidate will possess strong professional leadership, clinical expertise, and management capabilities. In collaboration with the Executive Team and Lead Clinicians, the Matron will provide visible leadership to foster effective teamwork, patient-centered care, and outstanding clinical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

- Collaborate with various professionals and support staff to establish multidisciplinary working arrangements within the service and across the Trust.

- Utilize sound judgment in assessing complex patient issues, agreeing on solutions, and ensuring a safe and timely patient pathway for optimal care delivery.

- Lead the management of sensitive and contentious issues involving patients, their families, and staff.

- Investigate and respond to formal complaints, participating in initiatives that promote patient involvement and monitoring their impact.

- Review incident management and audit information to ensure robust systems are in place that promote best practices.

- Assist in developing and maintaining effective healthcare governance systems at both the directorate level and across the Trust, ensuring adherence to national guidelines.

- Participate in the Trust's out-of-hours arrangements for Duty Matron.

- Produce reports in collaboration with the Directorate management team regarding Urology Services and make necessary recommendations.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse.
  • Relevant clinical knowledge in Cardiology Services.
  • 1st or higher degree.
  • Completion of the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification.
  • Evidence of relevant post-registration academic achievement at Master's degree level or equivalent.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Leadership development experience.

Essential Experience

  • Current experience at Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse level.
  • Proven leadership and change management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize objectives and workload effectively.
  • Experience in motivating and developing teams.
  • Budget management experience.

Essential Skills

  • Strong leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across professional boundaries.
  • Competence in managing change effectively.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Act as a role model for all healthcare professionals.
  • Must be available to participate in the duty Matron rota, including night duty when required.
