Job Overview

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated and innovative Senior Nurse leader to take on the role of Lead Nurse for Cardiac Services, overseeing the Coronary Care Unit and Acute Cardiology Ward. This department features 8 level 2 care beds in the coronary care unit and a 26-bed acute cardiology ward, equipped with both level 2 and telemetry care facilities. Our aim is to provide exceptional care for patients suffering from heart and lung diseases, ensuring a collaborative environment for our multidisciplinary teams across the region.

Strong leadership, clinical expertise, and management capabilities are vital for this position. The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Team and Lead Clinicians to foster effective teamwork, patient-centered care, and outstanding clinical outcomes.

Your primary responsibility will be to uphold clinical quality standards by offering inspirational and visible leadership to the nursing teams within the Coronary Care Unit and Acute Cardiology Ward, including specialized teams focused on Cardiac Arrhythmias and Inherited Cardiac Conditions.

Key Responsibilities

- Collaborate with various professionals and support staff to establish effective multidisciplinary working arrangements within the service and across the Trust.

- Utilize sound judgment to assess complex patient issues, develop solutions, and ensure a safe and timely patient pathway for optimal care delivery.

- Lead the management of sensitive and challenging issues involving patients, their families, and staff.

- Investigate and respond to formal complaints, engaging in initiatives that promote patient involvement and monitoring their effectiveness.

- Review incident management and audit data to develop robust systems and processes that encourage best practices.

- Assist in creating and maintaining effective healthcare governance systems at both the directorate and Trust levels, ensuring compliance with national guidelines.

- Participate in the Trust's out-of-hours Duty Matron arrangements.

- Generate reports and collaborate with the Directorate management team regarding Cardiac Services, providing recommendations as necessary.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Registered Nurse.
  • Relevant clinical expertise in Cardiology Services.
  • 1st or higher degree.
  • Completion of the national PEAP program for practice supervisors or equivalent.
  • Evidence of relevant post-registration academic achievement at the Master's degree level or equivalent.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Leadership development experience.

  • Current experience at Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse level.
  • Proven leadership and change management skills.
