Job Title: Cardiac Physiologist

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Cardiac Physiologist to join our Diagnostic Cardiology team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality diagnostic echocardiography services, interpreting results, and providing accurate clinical reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Cardiac Ultrasound Service by providing a high standard of work in Echocardiography, meeting organisational, professional, and individual needs.
  • Provide leadership, training, and education in clinical areas, enabling staff to develop clinical skills and competencies required for delivering a high-quality diagnostic echo service.
  • Work alongside senior team members to deliver an in-house Echo training programme and support the development of a regional Echo Training website.
  • Undertake clinical supervision and training of qualified professionals, junior, and trainee physiological staff.
  • Liaise with the Lead Echocardiographer and Lead Trainer in Echo to ensure departmental and BSE guidelines are maintained and up-to-date with current clinical and technical practice.
  • Help develop specialist services and participate in other CPD activities to maintain own competencies.

Requirements:

  • Experience in providing specialised, unsupervised diagnostic reports to an appropriate level and highlighting urgent findings.
  • Ability to deliver hands-on training and support junior members of staff, Specialist Registrars, or other medical professionals as required.
  • Experience of providing a wide range of invasive and non-invasive investigations.
  • Experience in leadership, supervision, and assessment.
  • Perform transthoracic echocardiograms to a high standard independently in accordance with BSE guidelines and department minimum standards.
  • Demonstrate Continual Professional Development as per British Society of Echocardiography Guidelines.
  • Professional membership of relevant professional bodies obtained by examination.

Person Specification:

  • MSc Clinical Science (Cardiac, Vascular, Respiratory, and Sleep Sciences) or other relevant Level 7 academic qualification.
  • SCST parts I & II (if applicable to qualification route).
  • British Society of Echocardiography Adult Proficiency Accreditation.
  • Professional Registration with Academy of Healthcare Science or Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) / Healthcare Science (Cardiology) or equivalent qualification.
  • Registered or eligible to register with RCCP, AHCS, or HCPC or Eligible for PTP/STP equivalence.
  • BSE written assessment completed.
  • Near completion of BSE practical assessment.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • Immediate Life Support.
  • Teaching or Managerial Qualification/Experience.
  • Active membership of the British Society of Echocardiography.
  • SCST Part I & II.
  • BSE Accreditation.
