Lead Ecological Consultant

ECOSA is excited to announce an opportunity for a Lead Ecological Consultant to become part of our dynamic team.

In this role, you will leverage your ecological knowledge to provide expert guidance and implement a variety of survey and mitigation strategies across a diverse range of projects, ensuring that our clients meet their development and conservation objectives.

As a recognized CIEEM Registered Practice, we are dedicated to upholding the highest standards and promoting the ecological profession positively.

This position is available as a full-time permanent role, with options for part-time or flexible working arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive ecological assessments and reports;
  • Conduct protected species and habitat surveys;
  • Manage projects effectively, particularly for medium to large scale developments;
  • Prepare technical documentation, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) reports;
  • Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to achieve project goals;
  • Stay updated on UK and European ecological legislation and policies;
  • Contribute to team discussions and initiatives to enhance service delivery.

Essential Qualifications

  • Full membership of CIEEM (or in progress);
  • Relevant degree in ecology or a related field;
  • At least four years of post-qualification experience in ecological consultancy;
  • Proven track record in conducting ecological surveys;
  • Strong project management capabilities;
  • Valid Natural England / Natural Resources Wales protected species class licence;
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications;
  • Full driving licence;
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.

Desirable Attributes

  • Familiarity with QGIS;
  • Specialization in specific species (e.g., bats, hazel dormouse, reptiles);
  • Experience in quality assurance for technical reports.
