Lead Ecological Consultant

ECOSA is excited to announce an opportunity for a Lead Ecological Consultant to become part of our dynamic team.

As a vital member of our extensive group of environmental specialists, you will leverage your ecological knowledge to offer valuable insights and implement a diverse array of survey and mitigation strategies across a broad spectrum of projects, ensuring our clients achieve their development and conservation objectives.

Being a CIEEM Registered Practice, we are dedicated to promoting best practices and advancing the profession positively.

This position is available as a full-time and permanent role, with options for part-time or flexible working arrangements.

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Full membership with CIEEM (or actively pursuing this)
  • Degree in a relevant field;
  • At least four years of post-qualification experience in an ecology-focused position, ideally within ecological consultancy;
  • Comprehensive experience in conducting protected species and habitat assessments;
  • Strong project management capabilities, particularly concerning medium to large-scale projects;
  • Proven track record in technical report writing, including PEAs, EcIAs, BNG reports, and other technical documentation.
  • Possession of at least one Natural England / Natural Resources Wales protected species class licence;
  • In-depth understanding of pertinent UK and European legislation, policies, and guidelines;
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team with excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel;
  • A valid driving licence; and
  • Legal right to work in the UK.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with QGIS;
  • A specific area of expertise, such as bats, hazel dormouse, reptiles, etc.
  • Experience in quality assurance for technical reports.
