Position Overview:

As the Spares and Support Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the effective delivery of support, spare parts, and related documentation for current and future projects involving specialist, tactical, and high mobility vehicles. This role requires close collaboration with the Project Manager and Commercial Manager to define, manage, and negotiate requirements.

The Spares & Support Operations Manager will oversee the generation of publications documentation (AESPs), coordinating with third-party suppliers for document creation. The role will focus on various aspects typically associated with Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), with a primary emphasis on spare parts management. You will ensure that quality standards are upheld through subcontracted suppliers for publications and related deliverables within the ILS work package, supported by administrative functions, in line with contract specifications.

Initially, your focus will be on completing the final delivery of tasks for an active contract while also managing requirements for future contracts related to both current and previously delivered platforms. Your leadership will be crucial in guiding the project towards the successful delivery of spare parts. Working alongside the project manager and engineering support teams, you will identify scope changes and ensure that supplier deliveries align with contract requirements.

Effective communication with stakeholders will be essential to meet resource needs and mitigate risks early. The role also involves interfacing with production and operations management, as well as liaising with suppliers to ensure timely deliveries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary Point of Contact for all spare parts-related tasks, including logistics support and integration.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the Integrated Logistics Support Plan (ILSP).
  • Plan, control, and implement measures to support spare parts deliverables.
  • Assist the Project Manager in managing requirements and identifying any changes.
  • Maintain task and milestone schedules while coordinating logistics concerns.
  • Review project designs and documentation to ensure all spare parts considerations are addressed.
  • Identify, analyze, and anticipate risks associated with work packages and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Evaluate spare parts support requirements to ensure proposals meet support needs.
  • Ensure all related activities are completed on time.
  • Demonstrate strong skills in interpreting, producing, and tracking technical documentation.

Key Attributes:

Essential:

  • Experience in supplier and supply chain management.
  • Proficiency in writing or reviewing publications.
  • Working knowledge of requirements definitions and quality assurance.
  • Experience in delivering projects for the UK Defence industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strategic planning capabilities.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of ILS subject matter and scope.
  • Experience in project management and purchasing.
  • Technical or engineering background.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and machining processes.
  • Familiarity with SAGE business systems for stock control.
  • Experience in delivering UK Land Systems and tactical vehicle projects.
