Position Overview

Are you a skilled and dedicated pharmacist seeking a new opportunity to advance your career?

Recent innovations and investments within the Trust have led to the creation of new pharmacist positions aimed at enhancing service delivery. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in providing senior leadership across multiple sites and delivering the clinical pharmacy service for the designated division. You will also support the Pharmacy Senior Leadership Team in the ongoing development and execution of clinical pharmacy services.

This position is associated with the Surgical Division and will primarily operate from a central location, benefiting from the Trust's specialized services and new facilities. You will have the chance to apply your expertise and clinical knowledge to shape this role in alignment with departmental objectives.

The Trust is preparing to implement an advanced electronic patient record system, which includes features for electronic prescribing and inventory management. This new position is expected to contribute significantly to this transformative process.

In addition to our state-of-the-art dispensaries, we are home to one of the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service's medicines advice centers and a Regional Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit, which includes a cutting-edge Aseptic facility.

This role is available as a 12-month secondment and will require cross-site collaboration.

Main Responsibilities

As the principal pharmacist for the Surgical Division, you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the effective and economical use of medications throughout the division, aiming to reduce drug wastage and manage high-cost medications appropriately.

Deliver an advanced clinical pharmacy service in accordance with the Trust's objectives, pharmacy Key Performance Indicators, established clinical standards, and relevant legislation.

Provide ongoing clinical support, mentorship, and leadership to pharmacy staff contributing to the clinical pharmacy service within the Surgical Division.

Enhance clinical pharmacy involvement in the Surgical Division and offer departmental leadership in this specialty. This will require close collaboration with colleagues across various hospital sites to ensure consistent practices.

Take charge of the delivery, management, and development of clinical pharmacy services.

Be an integral part of advancing the digital medicines agenda within the Pharmacy department.

Act as a deputy for the Assistant Chief Pharmacist at the designated hospital site.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post-registration experience with extensive hospital pharmacy exposure
  • Diverse clinical pharmacy experience
  • Experience in staff management and overseeing a pharmacy section/team
  • Experience in conducting audits related to medications and services
  • Experience in providing and assessing pharmacy education and training
  • Experience in developing and reviewing guidelines, procedures, and reports

Desirable

  • Experience at a specialist or divisional level with responsibilities for pharmacy services

Qualifications

Essential

  • Vocational master's degree in Pharmacy or equivalent with pre-registration training
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Postgraduate qualification in pharmacy practice

Desirable

  • Prescriber status
  • Management or leadership training
  • Membership in the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
  • Training in risk management
