Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise support workers within the team as required in line with company policy and expectations.
  • Be the designated responsible person for the home and its young people when on shift, ensuring daily handovers and communications are delivered to a high standard.
  • Promote, safeguard, and protect the welfare of each child.
  • Encourage children to develop their full educational and vocational attainment.
  • Establish and maintain positive and trusting relationships with the children that will promote their sense of security.
  • Provide firm, consistent, and fair boundaries in respect of their behaviour and employ appropriate and agreed consequences.
  • Ensure that appropriate medical help is provided in cases of illness and accidents.
  • Promote the development of a healthy lifestyle for children.
  • Assist children in the development and sustaining of positive social networks with adults and other peer groups.
  • Organise and participate in group activities and group holidays.
  • Assist in the provision/preparation of meals and cleaning in the home.
  • Assist and support children through the process of leaving care.
  • Engage in and supervise day-to-day care practices, creating an accepting environment conducive to the positive personal development of each child.
  • Undertake planning for and preparation of children for moving in or moving on.
Teamwork
  • Ensure that all children have care plans and develop, implement, and review packages of care.
  • Work as a member of a team, ensuring that the reception, on-going care, and discharge of children is undertaken in accordance with the statutory framework and policies & procedures of the organisation.
  • Attend and contribute to adult get-together meetings, participating and collaborating with other adults in the home in the provision of care to enable the development of the home.
  • Work closely and in co-operation with carers, social workers, adults in the home, specialists, and other professional agencies in accordance with the role and function of the home.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate professional relationships with families and other agencies.
  • Attend child care reviews and other forums where children's needs are being considered.
  • Support less experienced adults in the home from time to time as part of their programme of induction to the work and operation of the home in conjunction with the organisation's policies and procedures.
  • Undertake sleep-in duties as appropriate.
  • Make positive use of supervision by senior adults in the home.
  • Participate in the continuous development of the adults working in the home.
  • Actively seek out opportunities for professional development.
  • All adults in the home are expected to undertake training to Diploma level 3.
Administrative
  • Undertake routine administrative tasks and provide written reports and maintain the child's file as required by the organisation's policies and procedures.
  • Compile reports, including reviews, progress, and incident reports.
  • Adhere to appropriate guidelines and procedures. Receive complaints in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organisation.
  • Undertake financial management and recording of day-to-day petty cash maintenance in accordance with the organisation's policies and procedures.
  • Carry out duties in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act, adopting safe working practices, in accordance with the organisation's policies and procedures.
  • All duties and responsibilities will be carried out in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organisation.
The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is passionate about raising the bar for children in care. The ideal candidate will have a Level 3 Diploma with Children & Young People, flexibility within their hours, and a good understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
