Position Overview

The Senior Clinical Pharmacy Manager will spearhead the development, management, and enhancement of a responsive and patient-centered clinical pharmacy service within the Community and Intermediate Care Division. This role involves close collaboration with the Clinical Lead Pharmacist for the Medicine and Emergency Care Division to ensure a uniform and effective approach to pharmacy service delivery across all sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide exemplary leadership and oversight for Pharmacy Services across designated specialties within the Community and Intermediate Care Division, ensuring that responsibilities are appropriately delegated and that services are managed efficiently.
  2. Fulfill the comprehensive duties of a line manager for assigned pharmacists, which includes performance management, development reviews, appraisals, and the establishment of SMART objectives and personal development plans.
  3. Inspire and motivate team members within both the Pharmacy and CIC Division to foster a collaborative and positive working environment, thereby enhancing staff retention.
  4. Support the divisions through the provision of relevant analyses, audits, and reviews to inform decision-making and facilitate evidence-based service planning.
  5. Collaborate closely with the Assistant Director of Pharmacy - Clinical Services to ensure the development and standardization of medication policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.

Additional Responsibilities

  1. Lead by example across all CIC specializations, ensuring that systems are established to guarantee a consistently high-quality service in partnership with the multidisciplinary team.
  2. Manage, mentor, and develop staff within CIC clinical services.
  3. Oversee the safe, effective, and economical use of medications within the CIC Division, ensuring optimal budget utilization and the identification of cost improvement initiatives related to medications.
  4. Contribute to the broader Medicines Optimisation and Governance Strategy across the Trust, primarily through leadership of clinical staff and the implementation of guidelines to promote best practices.
  5. Engage with multidisciplinary and wider pharmacy teams to enhance patient flow and outcomes.
  6. Act as a deputy for the Assistant Director of Pharmacy for Clinical Services as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Vocational Master's degree in Pharmacy
  • 12 months of pre-registration training and experience
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacist
  • A minimum of 12 months as a qualified pharmacist
  • Specialist postgraduate qualification - clinical diploma (or equivalent)
  • Experience as an advanced clinical pharmacist with demonstrated competence and specialized experience in medicine
  • Experience in postgraduate education and training
  • Management experience
  • Expert knowledge of Pharmacy Services, including Clinical Governance and Risk Management

  • Independent Prescriber
  • Membership in the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
  • Excellence or Mastery in the majority of competencies within the management cluster, demonstrating the ability to deliver at a Consultant Pharmacist level
