Position Overview

Are you a dedicated junior doctor with the ability to recognize challenges and make informed decisions? We invite you to explore an opportunity within our Emergency Department as a Clinical Fellow.

In this role, you will play a crucial part in delivering a high-quality emergency medicine service to the community, collaborating closely with your peers. Your responsibilities will include providing emergency care to patients in the Emergency Medicine Department and coordinating with various specialties, while also supporting and mentoring junior medical staff in emergency medicine.

You will work alongside the on-call consultant for both clinical and administrative matters, as well as the nursing team, to ensure the department operates smoothly and efficiently, with a focus on meeting national performance targets without compromising patient care quality.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of the Emergency Medicine team, you will deliver diagnostic and therapeutic services to all patients in the emergency assessment area, which includes minor injuries, minor illnesses, ambulatory majors, major cases, pediatric care, and resuscitation. This encompasses a comprehensive Emergency Village, featuring both medical and surgical short-stay wards, along with a Same Day Emergency Care service.

Patients will receive a tailored model of care, transitioning through assessment areas based on their individual needs. Emergency Nurse Practitioners will collaborate in a dedicated urgent treatment center alongside a co-located General Practitioner and Emergency Department clinicians.

You will not be expected to lead the department independently at any time.

Job Responsibilities

The Clinical Fellow positions in Emergency Medicine are designed to enhance the specialist emergency service available to the community of Mid Essex, particularly in light of the increasing demands and evolving professional roles.

Your role will contribute to providing greater senior support to Emergency Nurse Practitioners and junior doctors throughout the entire 24-hour period, including weekends.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification

Desirable

  • Advanced qualifications such as ATLS, APLS, ALS Certification

Eligibility

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 years post-registration experience, including at least 1 year in UK Accident & Emergency Services
  • Eligibility for full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment
  • Evidence of achieving Foundation competencies in accordance with GMC standards by the time of appointment
