Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom Oxford University Hospitals Full time

Position Overview

An opportunity has arisen for a whole-time/part-time Consultant in Cardiology at a prestigious healthcare institution. This role is designed for those who are passionate about advancing cardiac care and wish to contribute to a leading cardiology department.

The position is available on a whole-time or part-time basis, and candidates interested in job-sharing arrangements are encouraged to apply.

Prospective candidates are highly encouraged to familiarize themselves with the department and institution, and are invited to reach out to the Clinical Lead for further insights.

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking applications for the Consultant position within the Cardiology Department.

The institution serves a large population and operates as a tertiary cardiac center, providing a dynamic environment for clinical leadership. The role will primarily focus on overseeing the busy Echocardiography Department, which conducts a significant number of studies annually. This position will also entail providing imaging support for the expanding structural interventional program, which is among the largest in the country, performing numerous transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) procedures each year.

Working Environment

The Echocardiography Department is located within a state-of-the-art facility, integrated with the Cardiology Outpatient Department. It features dedicated echo rooms, including a spacious procedure room and a large reporting area. Services are offered to various specialist services across multiple sites, along with a contract for GP open-access echocardiography delivered from community locations.

Currently, the department employs accredited cardiac physiologists, alongside trainees, who conduct physiologist-led contrast and bubble echo lists, as well as valve clinics. Several cardiology consultants contribute to the echo service, performing complex studies and diagnostic procedures. The successful candidate will assume a pivotal clinical leadership role, collaborating closely with the Lead Echocardiographer.

The structural interventional service is rapidly expanding, and the successful candidate will support this growth by participating in multidisciplinary meetings and performing peri-procedural transoesophageal echocardiography in the catheterization labs.
