Key Responsibilities
We invite applications for the Consultant position in the Cardiology Department. This role is designed to provide clinical leadership within a dynamic Echo Department, which conducts over 30,000 echocardiographic studies annually. The position will focus on delivering peri-procedural imaging support for an expanding structural interventional program.
This program is recognized as one of the largest in the country, performing numerous transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) procedures each year.
About the Department
The Echocardiography Department operates from a state-of-the-art facility, integrated with the Cardiology Outpatient Department. It features multiple dedicated echo rooms, including a spacious procedure room and a large meeting area. Services are extended to various secondary and tertiary specialist services across multiple sites.
Currently, the department employs a team of accredited cardiac physiologists, with ongoing training for junior staff. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in clinical leadership, supporting the Lead Echocardiographer and contributing to the growth of the structural interventional service.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Criteria:
- Full GMC registration and license to practice
- Medical degree
- CCT in Cardiology
- BSE Accreditation in Transthoracic Echo (or equivalent)
- Comprehensive training in Clinical Cardiology
- Expertise in all aspects of Echocardiography
- Proficiency in TOE for guiding cardiac structural interventions
Desirable Criteria:
- Higher medical degree
- BSE Accreditation in Stress Echo and/or TOE
Experience Requirements:
Essential:
- Demonstrated experience in elective and acute Clinical Cardiology
- Proven experience in transthoracic echo for various patient scenarios
- Expertise in advanced diagnostic echo techniques
- Ability to manage complex clinical challenges at a consultant level
- Experience in supporting both consultant and junior colleagues
Skills and Knowledge:
Essential:
- Ability to provide clinical leadership in a teaching hospital environment
- Strong administrative and time management skills
- Experience in clinical governance and risk management
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Capability to contribute to the long-term development of the service
