Cardiology Lead Nurse Specialist

The Cardiology Lead Nurse will serve as a clinical expert, driving progressive nursing practice and contributing to the strategic and operational management of the Cardiothoracic Directorate. They will collaborate with the Ward Manager, Practice Development Nurse, and Cardiology ACP to develop and lead projects that benefit patients and staff, and work with the wider Heart Centre team to deliver these projects.
Main Duties- Act as a clinical expert, leading progressive nursing practice and contributing to the strategic and operational management of the Cardiothoracic Directorate.
- Provide expert practice through leadership, consultation, clinical advice, teaching, and support for staff, working with clinical colleagues to provide information, advice, and support to patients with complex cardiac conditions.
- Identify and initiate change in response to service, taking a professional and clinical lead in the development of evidence-based approaches to practice, fostering a culture that contributes to the clinical governance agenda.
- Lead on strategic projects within the directorate in relation to the Cardiology Ward/ACCU.
- Manage and develop the senior nursing team on the ward and through them, all members of staff.
- Provide clinical leadership for advanced practice.
- Provide supervision/training to staff and students, developing nursing skills, ensuring that policies and procedures are implemented and evaluated, and ensuring that educational and development opportunities are optimized.
- Ensure the efficient and effective utilization of material and human resources within agreed budgets and act as an authorized signatory.
- Promote the practice of patient-centered nursing within teams.
- Provide support to the Matron as required.
