Job Overview

The Cardiology Lead Nurse will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of cardiac nursing practice, driving innovation and excellence in patient care. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a talented team of professionals in a world-class centre, delivering cutting-edge care to patients with complex cardiac conditions.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Act as a clinical expert, leading progressive nursing practice and contributing to the strategic and operational management of the Cardiothoracic Directorate.
  2. Provide expert practice through leadership, consultation, clinical advice, teaching and support for staff, working closely with clinical colleagues to provide information, advice and support to patients with complex cardiac conditions.
  3. Identify and initiate change in response to service, taking a professional and clinical lead in the development of evidence-based approaches to practice, fostering a culture that contributes to the clinical governance agenda.
  4. Lead on strategic projects within the directorate in relation to the Cardiology Ward/ACCU, ensuring the efficient and effective utilisation of material and human resources within agreed budgets.
  5. Manage and develop senior nursing teams on the ward, providing supervision, training and development opportunities to ensure that policies and procedures are implemented and evaluated.
  6. Provide clinical leadership for advanced practice, promoting the practice of patient-centred nursing within teams.
  7. Support the Matron as required, contributing to the delivery of compassionate excellence in patient care.
