Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Community Engagement Officer to join our team. As a key member of our outreach and partnerships team, you will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with local community groups, healthcare organizations, and statutory bodies. Your primary objective will be to raise awareness about our hospice and its services, while also identifying opportunities for collaboration and partnership.

Main Responsibilities

  • To establish and maintain relationships with community members, healthcare providers, and statutory organizations to promote our hospice and its services.
  • To engage with community groups, delivering presentations and workshops to raise awareness about our hospice and its mission.
  • To develop and implement community engagement initiatives, aligned with our strategic objectives, including working with people with lived experience from minority groups and ensuring inclusivity.
  • To act as a hospice ambassador, communicating information about our services to local communities and organizations.
  • To identify opportunities for collaboration with external organizations to deliver community engagement events and awareness programs.
  • To monitor and evaluate activity and data, providing insights to inform our outreach and partnerships strategy.
  • To lead on awareness campaigns, working closely with our Communications and Marketing team.
  • To contribute to, support, and disseminate information for other events and activities, such as fundraising events and awareness weeks.
  • To work collaboratively with all hospice teams to align community engagement efforts with our goals and priorities.
  • To communicate with internal colleagues about engagement events and activities.
  • To actively engage in internal and external hospice community events, fundraising, awareness-raising activities, and public speaking opportunities.
  • To seek opportunities and training to understand developments in palliative and end-of-life care, death, dying, and bereavement.
  • To represent Mary Stevens Hospice at external meetings as required.
  • To attend local events representing the hospice, including open days, engagement stands, and community events.
  • To collect and collate data from events and community engagement initiatives, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • To prepare reports for monitoring processes for our Senior Leadership Team.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, in addition to a proactive approach to social media.
  • Experienced public speaker and delivering presentations.
  • A professional, positive, and confident manner.
  • Ability to manage various tasks and projects in a timely manner.
  • Excellent MS Office skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to develop a range of relationships, including people with lived experience, health and social care workers, voluntary and statutory sector.
  • Proven networking and community engagement skills.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a community engagement role.
  • Experience of working with community groups.
  • Valid driving license and access to a vehicle.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of local services.
  • Experience of working in a voluntary organization.
  • Knowledge of the health and social care sector.
  • Knowledge of palliative and end-of-life care, hospice movement, bereavement, compassionate communities, etc.
  • Educated to degree level, or transferable experience.
