Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Occupational Therapy team at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust. As an Occupational Therapy Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our team of Occupational Therapists to provide clinical and administrative technical support in our London Spinal Cord Injury Centre.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide specific, clinical and technical support to aid the rehabilitation of Adults and Children admitted under Spinal Injuries Unit.
  • Assist with the teaching and supervision of exercises and functional activities, individually and in groups, and provide feedback to the multidisciplinary team on patients' progress.
  • Organise and maintain stocks of specialist equipment, including wheelchairs, and ensure the smooth running of the department.
  • Participate in regular supervision, IPR and other one-off projects as delegated by Senior Staff.
  • Supply patients requiring walking aids/equipment, instructing patients on their safe use.
Person Specification
  • Qualifications
    • Essential
      • Basic written and spoken English.
      • Basic numeracy.
      • Secondary school level or equivalent GCSE in English and Mathematics.
    • Desirable
      • In-service training in care work.
      • NVQ (Care) Level 2/3.
  • Experience
    • Essential
      • Worked in a team.
      • Worked with customers/clients.
      • Well-intentioned reasons for working at RNOH.
    • Desirable
      • Worked in a Therapies department.
      • Worked in a rehabilitation setting.
      • Worked with people with disabilities.
      • Experience of demonstrating, structuring and explaining tasks to others.
      • Experience of leading a group.

      • Able to organise own time effectively and prioritise workload.
      • Able to plan ahead re: resources.
      • Able to communicate with a variety of people.
      • Able to handle equipment within Health & Safety guidelines.

      • Able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.

      • Basic IT skills - competence in email, internet searches, basic word processing and spreadsheets.

      • Able to fit and demonstrate basic adaptive equipment and mobility aids, raised toilet seat, bathboard, helping hands and crutches.
