About the Role

Metro is seeking a highly skilled Ocean Freight Coordinator to join our dedicated Import and Export teams. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in orchestrating the movement of goods across international waters, ensuring they reach their destinations safely, efficiently, and on time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Build Relationships: Foster strong relationships with clients to provide exceptional customer service and ensure a high level of satisfaction.
  • Resolve Requests and Queries: Effectively and efficiently resolve client requests and queries, providing clear and accurate communication.
  • Freight Management: Ensure freight is moved on time, with all necessary documentation, and that all freight is invoiced and checked prior to dispatch.
  • Documentation and Administration: Maintain accurate records and documentation, including pre-alert documents, and ensure all necessary paperwork is completed.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Communicate clearly and precisely with overseas agents and clients, resolving issues and complaints in a timely manner, and collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless operations.
  • Haulage and Logistics: Arrange haulage with shipping lines and hauliers, ensuring timely and efficient transportation of goods.
  • Customer and Supplier Management: Maintain customer and supplier spreadsheets, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information, and communicate with the sales department to ensure awareness of client activity and business profitability.
  • Training and Development: Take ownership of your own training and development, continuously improving and developing your skills to meet the evolving needs of the role.
Requirements
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years' experience in freight forwarding, with a strong understanding of import and export procedures.
  • Communication and Numerical Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong numerical and commercial skills, and the ability to cope with pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office and other office applications, with experience in Cargowise or similar systems.
  • Teamwork and Time Management: Proactive, team worker with excellent time management and organization skills, and the ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing situations.
