About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Marine Claims Manager to join our dynamic and fast-paced Claims team at Pen Underwriting. As a Marine Claims Manager, you will be responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of marine claims, including Hull and Machinery, Ports & Terminals, Marine Trades, Marine Hull, Cargo, and Marine liabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Claims Portfolio Management: Develop a comprehensive understanding of the underwriting and claims processes within our MGAs portfolios.
  • Reserving and Financial Provisions: Ensure accurate reserving and sufficient financial provisions are maintained for all claims within your portfolio, in line with our company's reserving philosophy.
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Foster strong and collaborative relationships with MGA underwriters and other internal stakeholders.
  • Third-Party Administration: Oversee third-party administrators and service providers, ensuring adherence to key performance indicators and best practices.
  • Claims Authority and Management: Lead the delegation of claims authority and proactively adjust claims within your authority level, delivering excellent service to our customers.
  • Claims Investigation and Resolution: Investigate, negotiate, and resolve marine claims in accordance with policy terms, best practices, and service standards.
  • Claims Data Management: Maintain accurate and timely records of claims data, correspondence, and financial transactions in our claims system.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate professionally and effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, brokers, underwriters, surveyors, lawyers, and regulators.
  • Claims Reserves and Payments: Monitor and manage claims reserves, payments, and recoveries, ensuring compliance with internal and external guidelines and regulations.
  • Claims Trends and Opportunities: Identify and report on trends, issues, and opportunities in marine claims, providing solutions and recommendations.
  • Claims Audits and Training: Participate in claims audits, reviews, and training, offering feedback and support to colleagues and managers.
  • Industry Knowledge and Best Practices: Stay updated on market developments, legal updates, and industry best practices in marine claims.
About You
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in handling marine claims, preferably within an insurance company or broker.
  • Qualifications: Relevant professional qualification, such as CII, ACII, or AMIM, or working towards one.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Strong knowledge of marine insurance products, policies, and markets. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse stakeholders.
  • Personal Qualities: High level of customer service orientation, focused on delivering quality and timely outcomes. Self-motivated and proactive attitude, capable of working independently and as part of a team. Flexible and adaptable approach, able to manage changing priorities and deadlines.
