The Custody Support Officer role is dynamic, placing you at the forefront of ensuring a smooth arrival process for detainees while facilitating access to necessary support during their detention. This includes overseeing a variety of onsite services such as healthcare, welfare, cultural provisions, education, and recreational activities. Effective communication is essential, as you will build supportive and appropriate relationships with detainees throughout their time with us.
We treat all detainees with fairness and respect, acknowledging their diverse backgrounds. While you may encounter challenging situations, the comprehensive training provided will equip you to handle these effectively.
What qualifications are needed for this role?
Our current Custody Support Officers come from a variety of professional backgrounds, including retail, healthcare, and security services. What’s most important is your commitment to making a difference in the lives of others; the specific skills will be developed during the training program.
A reasonable level of fitness and proficiency in English and Maths are required, as report writing and numerical skills are integral to the role.
Recruitment Process Overview:
- Submission of online application and CV.
- A one-hour virtual interview, assessing your fit for the role through competency-based questions and practical exercises.
- Successful candidates will complete a mandatory 7-week paid training course, during which no annual leave can be taken.
Additional Information:
- This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; all employment offers are contingent upon security clearance and Home Office approval.
- Candidates must obtain Home Office CTC and Enhanced DBS with Adult and Child Barring Vetting Clearances, requiring a 5-year checkable history.
