Job Overview

The Information Governance Specialist position is situated within the PTT Sub-directorate, specifically within the IG Delivery (Digital and Operations) domain. This role is pivotal in offering expert guidance on information governance, legal, policy, and professional standards. Additionally, it serves as the primary point of contact for IG inquiries from broader NHS England corporate teams. The position advocates for a privacy-centric approach in NHS England's national and digital IT services, data platforms, and operational services.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will deliver professional expertise to one of the teams within the PTT Sub-directorate. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing clear, timely, and actionable IG advice to various NHS England corporate teams.
  • Leading and managing critical project IG components.
  • Addressing ad hoc IG inquiries received by the team.
  • Collaborating in a dynamic, high-performance environment to achieve optimal outcomes for the organization.
  • Fostering a culture of continuous improvement and exceptional service delivery.
  • Contributing to a respectful and inclusive team culture that emphasizes collective growth.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Graduate-level qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • Post-graduate-level qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • Accredited IG qualification (e.g., BCS, ISEB, PDP, IAPP).

Desirable

  • Additional relevant accredited qualifications that would enhance performance in this role, such as project management (Agile, Prince II), technology (advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office365), security, communications, or leadership.

Knowledge Requirements

Essential

  • Comprehensive understanding of data protection laws, including UK GDPR, DPA 2018, and the Human Rights Act 1998.
  • Familiarity with the common law duty of confidentiality and its implications for NHS England's use of patient data.
  • Knowledge of the statutory functions of NHS England and the legal frameworks that govern its operations.
  • Understanding of records management as required by the Public Records Act 1958.
  • Awareness of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and Environmental Information Regulations 2004.

Experience Requirements

Essential

  • Proven experience in an information governance, privacy, or data protection role.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide timely and clear IG advice across various formats.
  • Experience in identifying IG compliance and operational risks, advising on mitigations, and escalating issues as necessary.
  • Proficiency in drafting key information governance documents, including policies, procedures, data protection impact assessments, and reports tailored to diverse audiences.
