Department Overview
The Engagement Terms Team (ETT) serves as a vital global function, delivering top-tier service to the firm's partners and fee earners by offering strategic legal support on a diverse range of client engagement terms and risk-related matters. Engagement terms are critical contracts that manage risk and define our relationships with clients, necessitating a high level of expertise and responsibility.

Role Overview
As clients adopt increasingly sophisticated approaches to engaging external counsel, Allen & Overy has established a specialized team of contract law experts to meet these expectations. This role is crucial in ensuring compliance with firm policies, applicable laws, and professional conduct rules while maintaining trust with clients and partners. You will provide credible and influential risk support, collaborating with a variety of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as an escalation point for ETT paralegals and in-house lawyers, focusing on systematizing responses and processes for consistency and efficiency.
  • Identify, assess, and manage risks associated with engagement terms, utilizing systems to analyze data across the firm's global network.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of systematic processes for engagement terms review.
  • Integrate advanced delivery products to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the engagement terms review process.
  • Collaborate with finance and IT to deliver an engagement terms repository.
  • Raise risk awareness by designing and delivering training on the importance of systems in managing engagement terms.
  • Advise on the creation and refinement of communication protocols with relationship partners and clients.
  • Promote efficient service delivery, fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the ETT.
  • Work with the business acceptance team to ensure engagement terms processes are integrated into the business acceptance lifecycle.
  • Support the Head of ETT in managing engagement terms-related escalations from client audits.
  • Assist the client audit and compliance team with ad-hoc queries on risk management.
  • Advise the In-House Legal team on client engagement and relationship issues.
  • Support the Head of ETT in team management responsibilities.
  • Exhibit flexibility to work outside standard hours as required.
