Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged to become a vital member of the pharmacy team within the Acute Medical Admissions Units. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Senior Pharmacist for Acute Medical Units and occasionally with the Emergency Department, alongside other specialized pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, to ensure the delivery of a safe and effective pharmaceutical service. The pharmacy service operates daily from morning until evening.

Our team comprises experienced non-medical prescribing pharmacists and technicians who are integrated within both the Acute Medical Units and the Emergency Department. We are excited to expand this service during a transformative period for pharmacists, where roles have evolved significantly, allowing for active participation in patient diagnostics and management as clinical practitioners.

Successful candidates will be encouraged to undertake a non-medical prescribing course to maximize their potential and will receive support for further professional or clinical development aligned with service requirements. Candidates should have completed the first year of their clinical diploma or be in the process of completing it.

Work hours will include a designated shift pattern that encompasses weekends, which will be discussed and can be negotiated during the interview process. You will also participate in the late-night rota and/or the on-call rota, averaging one shift every three weeks.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Acting as a deputy for the Senior Pharmacist in Medical Admissions as assigned.
  • Delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care to patients within the assessment and admissions services.
  • Serving as a role model in clinical pharmacy, consistently providing a high standard of pharmaceutical service in alignment with organizational objectives and national health initiatives.
  • Assisting in the development of policies and procedures for the safe use of medications across medical admissions and throughout the organization.
  • Collaborating with staff across various acute care departments to ensure a cohesive pharmacy service.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential qualifications include:

  • MPharm degree or equivalent.
  • Registered Pharmacist status (member of GPhC).
  • Completion of the first year of a post-graduate clinical certificate.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Non-medical Prescribing Qualification.
  • Progress towards completion of the second year of a post-graduate clinical diploma.

Essential experience includes:

  • Advanced practice in relevant areas.
  • Over one year of advanced clinical pharmacy experience.
  • Ability to manage complex clinical scenarios.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary team collaboration.

Desirable experience includes:
