Position Overview
We are excited to announce an opening for a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist (Band 7) within our Technical Services team at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.
This position is pivotal in ensuring the rigorous quality assurance of unlicensed aseptic products while providing essential support for our specialized chemotherapy clinical services.
The Technical Services department operates under the section 10 exemption of the Medicine Act 1968, adhering to the standards set forth in the Quality Assurance of Aseptic Preparation services (QAAPs).
We are looking for a dedicated professional who embodies commitment and accountability, serving as a positive role model for both our Aseptic Technical Team and Chemotherapy Clinical Team.
As a collaborative team member, you will utilize your technical and clinical expertise to enhance a critical segment of our pharmacy services.
Your enthusiasm and innovative ideas will contribute to delivering an exceptional pharmacy service within our busy Cancer Unit, as well as our tertiary Neonatal and Hepatobiliary (HBP) services.
This role will also involve participating in the ongoing development of our services, including the potential expansion towards a Specials Manufacturing Licence.
Main Responsibilities
The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will:
- Support the Lead Oncology Pharmacist, Lead Aseptic Pharmacist, and Lead Clinical Trials Pharmacist in all facets of aseptic dispensing and preparation of parenteral medications.
- Collaborate with the Lead Aseptic Pharmacist and Principal Pharmacist to uphold and enhance the pharmaceutical quality system.
- Work closely with the aseptic team to ensure the seamless operation of aseptic units.
- Deliver a high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered pharmacy service.
- Assist in ensuring clinical trials are conducted in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and that aseptic products meet Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.
- Contribute to maintaining the document control system and reviewing relevant procedures and worksheets.
- Evaluate the stability of both new and existing products, investigate deviations, and develop corrective actions.
- Conduct internal audits and quarterly inspections, identifying gaps and formulating action plans.
- Participate in the Planned Preventative Maintenance and Validations program for the Technical Services Unit.
- Provide professional leadership and mentorship to staff within the haemato-oncology/aseptic service.
- Ensure the delivery of a high standard of clinical pharmacy service under the guidance of the Lead Oncology Pharmacist.
- Identify risk management issues and assist in creating safe practice systems.
- Monitor and enhance medicines optimization in alignment with the Pharmacy Directorate's strategy.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- MPharm Degree (4 years) or equivalent.
- Registered with GPhC.
- Experience in Aseptic services and relevant clinical settings.
- Proficient in writing and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Desirable:
- Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance (PTQA) Diploma.
- Postgraduate clinical diploma.
- Non-Medical Prescribing qualification.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential:
- Comprehensive understanding of NHS and Pharmaceutical Policy.
- Expertise in GCP/GMP/GDP regulations.
- Knowledge of clean room designs and associated regulations.
- Ability to communicate complex information effectively to senior staff and patients.
Personal Attributes
