Position Overview

Are you an experienced statistician eager to address the pressing challenges in sustainable agriculture? We are looking for a talented statistician to create research solutions that enhance our core-funded research initiatives. You will be part of a specialized team of statisticians and data scientists within a rapidly expanding community of quantitative researchers at Rothamsted Research, situated in a vibrant interdisciplinary research setting.

Your initial focus will be on statistical research challenges within two of the Institute's Strategic Grant Programmes (ISPGs) at Rothamsted Research. Current research challenges include:

  • Developing methods for model integration and creating Bayesian belief networks through elicitation techniques.
  • Designing and analyzing multi-omics studies, incorporating multivariate analysis methodologies.

This foundational research will serve as a springboard for you to enhance your statistical expertise, addressing further inquiries across the institute's research agenda, particularly in livestock and grazing studies at our North Wyke campus.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Experience in applying statistical and data science techniques to resolve real-world issues in agricultural and environmental research.
  • A comprehensive understanding of traditional statistical methodologies, including experimental design and analysis, various statistical modeling techniques, and multivariate analysis.
  • Familiarity with modern statistical data science approaches relevant to biology, including AI and big data methodologies.
  • Proficient computing skills with knowledge of one or more statistical software packages/environments, such as Genstat, R, or Python.
  • A logical mindset and a practical approach to problem-solving and model development.

You can expect to engage in additional activities within the Statistics and Data Science Section, including providing consultancy to PhD candidates and post-doctoral researchers, as well as contributing to our statistical training programs. Although your primary location will be at our Harpenden campus, occasional visits to the North Wyke campus in Devon may be necessary to support specific research projects.
