Position Overview

Are you an experienced statistician eager to address the pressing challenges in sustainable agriculture? We are looking for a proficient statistician to create research solutions that enhance our core-funded research initiatives. You will become part of a specialized team of statisticians and data scientists within a rapidly expanding community of quantitative experts at Rothamsted Research, working in a vibrant interdisciplinary research setting.

Your initial focus will be on statistical research challenges within two of the Institute's Strategic Grant Programmes (ISPGs) at Rothamsted Research, specifically in the areas of Health and Green Engineering. Current research challenges include:

  • Developing methods for model integration and constructing Bayesian belief networks through elicitation techniques.
  • Designing and analyzing multi-omics studies, with an emphasis on multivariate analysis methods.

This foundational research will serve as a platform for you to expand your statistical expertise, addressing further inquiries across the institute's research agenda, particularly in livestock and grazing studies.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Experience in applying statistical and data science methodologies to resolve real-world issues in agricultural and environmental research.
  • A comprehensive understanding of traditional statistical techniques, including experiment design and analysis, various statistical modeling methods, and multivariate analysis.
  • Familiarity with modern statistical data science approaches, including artificial intelligence and big data methodologies.
  • Proficient computing skills with knowledge of one or more statistical software environments, such as Genstat, R, or Python.
  • A logical mindset and a practical approach to problem-solving and model development.

You can expect to engage in other activities within the Statistics and Data Science Section, including providing consultancy to PhD candidates and post-doctoral researchers, as well as contributing to our statistical training initiatives. While your primary location will be at our Harpenden campus, occasional visits to support specific research projects may be necessary.
