Position Overview

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is a prominent non-departmental public entity under the auspices of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. With a substantial annual budget exceeding £8 billion, we employ over 7,000 professionals dedicated to advancing some of the most innovative and challenging research initiatives globally. Our operations span across the UK, featuring key locations in London, Swindon, Harwell, Daresbury, and Bristol. We collaborate with universities, research institutions, businesses, charities, and governmental bodies to foster research and innovation, creating an optimal environment for growth.

Role Description

UKRI is in search of qualified individuals to serve as Council members across its eight Councils. Each Council is directed by an Executive Chair and comprises a team of five to twelve members.

The Councils play a vital role in UKRI's advisory framework. The diverse expertise present within the Councils offers invaluable insights and constructive challenges to the Executive Chairs, supporting the vitality of various disciplines and sectors within the UK's research and innovation ecosystem. Furthermore, Council members engage in cross-disciplinary activities, ensuring that the advantages of a cohesive system are fully realized and that interdisciplinary research and innovation flourish.

Candidate Profile

The ideal Council members will collectively possess a wide-ranging array of expertise and experience in research and innovation, encompassing higher education, industry, commerce, policy, and civil society, as well as relevant user communities for each Council. This diversity will reflect various characteristics and professional backgrounds, contributing to the Councils' effectiveness.
