Position Overview
UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is a prominent non-departmental public entity under the auspices of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. With a substantial annual budget exceeding £8 billion, we employ a dedicated workforce of over 7,000 professionals. Our teams are engaged in some of the most groundbreaking and demanding research initiatives, operating exceptional scientific and innovation facilities throughout the UK, including key locations in London, Swindon, Harwell, Daresbury, and Bristol. We collaborate with universities, research institutions, businesses, charities, and governmental bodies to facilitate research and innovation while fostering an optimal environment for these endeavors to thrive.
Role Description
UKRI is looking to appoint members to its Councils, which are integral to our advisory framework. Each Council is guided by an Executive Chair and is supported by a team of five to twelve members.
The Councils play a vital role in providing expert advice and constructive challenges to the Executive Chairs, thereby enhancing the vitality of various disciplines and sectors within the UK's research and innovation ecosystem. Furthermore, Council members engage in cross-disciplinary initiatives, ensuring that the advantages of a cohesive system are fully realized and that interdisciplinary research and innovation are nurtured.
Candidate Profile
The ideal Council members will collectively possess a diverse array of expertise and experience in research and innovation across higher education, industry, commerce, policy, and civil society, as well as relevant user communities for each Council. This diversity will reflect a variety of professional backgrounds and characteristics, enriching the Council's advisory capacity.
