About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Palliative Care Specialist to join our dynamic team at Northampton General Hospital. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality palliative care to patients and their families, while also providing education and support to staff members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a core member of the Specialist Palliative Care multidisciplinary team, facilitating the effective management of patients referred to the team.
  • Undertake comprehensive holistic patient assessments, ensuring that results are considered when making decisions about patient care.
  • Prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient need and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and local protocols.
  • Provide Level 2 psychological support for patients and their carers, referring patients with complex needs to the Macmillan Clinical Psychologist as necessary.
  • Act as a specialist resource to other healthcare professionals, providing expert nursing advice and demonstrating high standards of holistic care.
  • Identify and meet the educational needs of patients and their carers, providing individualized carer needs assessments and referring to carer support agencies as appropriate.
Person Specification

We are looking for an individual with:

  • In-depth specialist palliative and end-of-life care experience, with a clear understanding of current statutory frameworks and national policy.
  • Extensive post-registration experience, with the ability to manage a caseload and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to provide education to all levels of staff, with evidence of teaching, mentoring, and assessing colleagues.
  • Clear up-to-date knowledge of current statutory frameworks and national policy.
  • Ability to use initiative, with excellent time management skills and motivation to pursue personal development.
