Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior Academic, you will take on enhanced responsibilities and play a vital role in fostering an enriching academic and professional atmosphere. Your duties will include:

  • Curriculum Leadership: Lead and mentor colleagues within the curriculum area to uphold the highest standards in teaching and learning.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside the Head of Academics or the Dean to spearhead initiatives for curriculum enhancement and development.

Programme Development and Management:

  • Lead the development, management, and evaluation of academic programs within your discipline.
  • Oversee and assess colleagues' work, providing guidance to elevate the quality of educational offerings.

Research and Professional Growth:

  • Engage in advanced research activities, contributing to ESL's academic profile and remaining abreast of developments in the field.
  • Participate actively in university/ESL research initiatives, promoting a culture of innovation and inquiry.

Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement:

  • Play a key role in the ongoing enhancement of teaching and learning standards, implementing and monitoring self-assessment processes.
  • Contribute to the formulation and execution of quality improvement strategies.

External Relations and Partnerships:

  • Strengthen connections with external stakeholders, industry partners, and employers to enrich the student experience and foster collaborative projects.
  • Represent ESL at external forums, enhancing the institution's reputation and standing.

Teaching and Support:

  • Deliver high-quality instruction across various programs within a Higher Education framework, particularly focusing on Foundation year courses.
  • Provide individualized support to students, assisting them in achieving their academic objectives and fostering positive progression.
  • Actively engage in the development and continuous improvement of courses, collaborating effectively with both staff and students.
  • Participate in the creation of module/unit-specific Schemes of Work and develop module materials for each course.
  • Facilitate subject-specific sessions aligned with the Learning Outcomes and syllabuses of modules.
  • Implement assessments as outlined by the assessment team and establish measures to understand students' learning needs.
  • Offer timely formative feedback and ensure compliance with the expectations of respective Awarding Bodies and Universities.
  • Produce relevant module/unit reports and demonstrate effective communication with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Contribute to the School's Research Department.

Qualifications and Skills:

Essential:

  • Doctoral qualification in a relevant subject area (Senior Academic only).
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in higher education teaching in the UK (Senior Academic).
  • Master's degree in a relevant subject area (Minimum requirement for Lecturer).
  • Prior lecturing experience in similar courses at the Higher Education level.
  • Proficiency in using Blackboard/VLEs, MS Teams, and Zoom.
  • Native English speaker or possess current IELTS 7.5 Academic Certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and oversee implementation of program development plans and assess colleagues' work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior education professionals and build strong teacher/learner relationships.

Desirable:

  • Possession of a teaching qualification such as FHEA or PGCHE, indicating a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Strong understanding of maintaining effective cross-cultural and interpersonal relationships.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
