IOM3 is the global organisation that provides membership for all individuals involved in the materials cycle. We work with scientists, engineers and sustainability professionals and from our offices in London and Grantham offer training and development, accreditation, including professional registration with the Science and Engineering Councils and the Society for the Environment, and the opportunity to be a part of an active support community of over 15,000 members worldwide.

We are looking for a Policy Officer to support the delivery and further development of IOM3 policy activity, and maximise its impact. The policy team works across a wide range of disciplines represented by IOM3 and the role will therefore require the Policy Officer to be flexible and adaptable with the ability to deliver several parallel projects simultaneously.

The role is perfect for a proactive individual with an interest in policy and the ability to pick up complex information and quickly synthesise key points. In this role you will communicate both to and from members, such as gathering and synthesising input to inform policy submissions and building the visibility of IOM3 policy activity through various channels.

This role will involve working with a diverse mix of members and is a fantastic opportunity to help leverage the expertise of members to influence decision-makers.

Responsibilities:
  • Leverage and synthesise the expertise of members including Technical Community Leadership Teams to develop policy contributions.
  • Support the effective communication of policy activity to help maximise its visibility and impact, for example by contributing to IOM3 news items, social media content and internal and external policy updates.
  • Maintain an excellent understanding of current policy issues that impact and are impacted by materials, minerals and mining.
  • Identify key themes and upcoming policy issues including through working with the Technical Community Leadership Teams and other members.
  • Support the development of IOM3 Policy Papers.
  • Undertake research and prepare internal and external policy briefings.
  • Work with the wider team to support the delivery of policy content across IOM3 workstreams including for events and training.

Knowledge and/or a demonstratable interest in the UK policy landscape relevant to IOM3 members, preferably about at least one of the following: net-zero; energy-intensive industries such as iron and steel, cement or ceramics; packaging; Ability to independently manage own time and workload, and willingness to be flexible.

Experience working in policy or industry relevant to materials, minerals and mining is appreciated, but not necessary.
