Senior Safety Assurance Engineer Location:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with clients to establish delivery timelines.
  • Delegating tasks to qualified and experienced team members, which may include personnel management responsibilities (Performance Development Reviews, career progression plans, aspirations, etc.).
  • Coordinating with executive leadership to ensure the availability of qualified personnel within the team.
  • Creating and assessing safety designs for Aircraft/System/Sub-System and Support Products/Goods to meet Safety Qualification/Certification requirements throughout the product lifecycle (from Concept to Qualification/Product Acceptance).

Examples of tasks include:

  • Conducting Preliminary Hazard identification and assessment.
  • Performing System/Sub-System/Equipment Hazard Analysis, Hazard and Operability Analysis (HAZOP), and System Safety Assessment Reports.
  • Executing Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Event Tree Analysis (ETA).
  • Generating, updating, and reviewing Aircraft Zonal Hazard Analysis Reports (ZHAs) to support the certification process or provide inputs to partner organizations.
  • Maintaining and updating hazard logs for the Platform and Support Products, while producing safety assessments and design justifications.
  • Reviewing certification evidence for Platform/Support Products and generating safety certification arguments/justifications to confirm the acceptability of the design in support of the certification process.
  • Ensuring that safety engineering evidence supports the acceptable Safety Certification of the product design, while preparing certification materials for internal, partner, and customer reviews as necessary.
  • Conducting risk assessments for emergent issues related to Weapon Platforms and supporting System/Sub-System areas and Support Products in these assessments to ensure Continued Airworthiness and Through Life product safety.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Essential: HND/HNC/Degree or equivalent in a STEM discipline, or relevant experience.
  • Experience in Safety Engineering, with strong critical and analytical thinking and excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • High level of self-motivation and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and experience in Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Systems or Mechanical Engineering, and Safety Engineering in a Military Airborne Platform design context.
  • Familiarity with Safety standards such as the UK Regulatory Framework, Def-Stan 00-55/00-56, Mil-Std-882, DO-178, DO-254, ARP 4754, ARP 4761, EN 61508.
  • Experience with Safety toolsets like Fault Tree Analysis +, Reliability Workbench, and Goal Structured Notation (GSN).

Additional Competencies:

  • Ability to engage with senior technical and engineering leaders within the organization and external partners.
  • Capability to lead and influence on technical aspects and acceptability of Product Safety throughout its lifecycle.
  • Leadership experience or the potential to develop into a leadership role.
