Technical Software Team Leader

Your Role
As the Technical Software Team Leader, you will oversee a group of software developers, guiding the architecture, implementation, and maintenance of robust data processing systems essential for supporting global scientific research. Your leadership will ensure that our organization can efficiently manage, analyze, and disseminate extensive sequence datasets.
You will collaborate closely with various teams, including development, operations, and IT services, as well as international partners in nucleotide sequence data management. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the structure and workflow of the development team while establishing and managing effective development methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, driving projects from initial concept through to successful implementation.
- Utilize strong analytical skills to devise scalable and high-performance software solutions.
- Establish and maintain development best practices, including continuous integration, deployment strategies, and comprehensive testing protocols.
- Foster a collaborative environment, encouraging communication and teamwork among diverse skill sets and backgrounds.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 12 years of professional experience, with proven success in managing complex software projects.
- Demonstrated problem-solving capabilities, particularly in delivering efficient and scalable solutions.
- Experience in building and leading development teams.
- Familiarity with contemporary software development methodologies, including system monitoring and testing frameworks.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a multidisciplinary scientific setting.
- Knowledge of sequence data and related formats, such as FASTQ, BAM, CRAM, and SRA.
Contract Details
- Contract Duration: 3 years
- Grading: 7 (monthly salary starting at £4,111 after tax, excluding pension and insurance benefits)
